Did you stumble upon this post to learn to make the easiest and tastiest french toast ever? Good. Let’s get on with it then!

As you are familiar with, we’re all in quarantine mode. Just scouring the stores to find weird substitutes for recipes and anything we can get our hands on. Ugh. Times are tough.

And you’re probably thinking, “but the stores are low on bread, how can I make french toast?”

So, I’m here to tell you what is so great about this quick and easy french toast recipe. It can be made with ANY TYPE OF BREAD. And it will still taste so stinkin’ good you won’t believe it!

I also made this recipe for my husband, who is super picky if something isn’t sweet enough. I cut the yummy french toast up for french toast sticks, stored them in the freezer and warmed them up in the microwave to serve him. Only to find out we ran out of syrup (face-palm moment). He said, “It’s good, they don’t need any syrup!”.

I mean, could you imagine the sweet tooth in your life saying they don’t need syrup on something?

Needless to say, if you have sweet tooths or picky eaters in your family, this french toast stick recipe is for you!

Side note: this recipe feeds an army! if you slice it up into french toast sticks, it will make 60!

The Best Freezable French Toast

Ingredients:

  • 1 Loaf of Bread (I used 100% whole wheat)
  • 3 Teaspoons Vanilla Extract
  • 1 Teaspoon Nutmeg (optional)
  • 1 Tablespoon Cinnamon
  • 1 1/4 Cups Granulated Sugar
  • 2 1/2 Cups Milk
  • 5 Large Eggs
  • 1 Teaspoon Salt

Directions:

  1. Get a non-stick skillet or electric griddle greased and ready on medium heat.
  2. Slice up your bread of choice into wide strips (or squares for toddlers). You can also leave the bread as is for full sized french toast.
  3. In a large bowl, whisk together the milk and eggs. Add in the vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, sugar, and salt.
  4. Its OK if you see tiny bits of egg yolk dispersed throughout. The egg will cook and it won’t taste eggy 🙂 .
  5. Pour mixture from the bowl into a deep square or rectangle dish. Lightly lay down all of your pieces of bread and flip them to get both sides coated. (If you are using a harder or stale bread, let the pieces soak longer).
  6. Place pieces of french toast onto your skillet or griddle and cook for a few minutes on each side, or until the toast is slightly browned and the liquid is now solid.
  7. Serve warm or let the french toast cool down to room temperature, then store in an airtight container and freeze! They take about 15-30 seconds in the microwave to reheat.

Tip: you can add extra spices, like allspice during the fall months to give it a pumpkin spice flavor. Yum!

Hope you enjoy!
